Has anyone tried using a Garmin Mobile 10 or a Garmin Mobile 20 on the Nokia N810 or N00 using Palm VM?

These GPSs give excellent voice routing on a Treo 650 for example.

There may be other GPSs that can run on the Treo.

Anyone tried any yet?

I haven't tried a GPS program yet because of reports that the BT stack is not available through Garnet on my N800. I have heard of nothing regarding GPS connectivity on the N810 though so this may change.

Is there a Google maps app for palm? Perhaps this or another smaller app could be used for testing first before attempting to load a full navigator program.

Google Maps exists for PalmOS, and it works Just Fine in GVM. It happily downloads maps as well as traffic information and POIs (in areas where this is available).

I'm not going to try to install TomTom or something similar on the GVM, I'm pretty certain it won't work, it's pure ARM code for one thing (Google Maps is m68k).

The current version of GVM can't see the BlueTooth interface of the N800 directly (only indirectly, as when you go on the net through a BT/phone connection with your Nokia tablet).

Google Maps works fine, but I managed to crash it by trying to save the location I just searched into the address book. It'd load contacts and display their location just fine, though.

Has anyone noticed this two foibles of GarnetVM?
- Cannot install PRC from network share (even though it would browse the share just fine, using the same browsing library as the File Manager, I'd guess).
- Cannot lock keyboard modifiers (double-Fn, double-shift).

I tried TomTom 6.0 with Palm VM without success. It could not find the main binaries nor the map on the SD card.

Hmmm... an idea; can any self-contained (so not Google Maps) Palm mapping programs (even without GPS access) perform actual routing? If so, and if you can save the route generated, you could load it (through some series of conversion gymnastics, no doubt) into MM: offline routing.

I had no luck with palm TOMTOM on gvm.

I know its slightly off topic for this thread - but does the xrandr kernel screen rotate code help the gvm?

Gvm runs great on my n800 - a portrait screen on a landscape tablet seems a little dull.

Well, it's not going to scale it up any, and it already has a rotated mode builtin, so I don't think you'll really gain anything...

Several Palm apps do routing, including Mapopolis, TomTom, Emtac, and others. The problem is that they don't save the route information, at least not in readable format. They route and reroute on the fly, depending on your location. Mapopolis will give a multistate route in a few seconds. Unfortunately, it's no longer sold or supported, but I still use it.
