I know the entire USB host mode thing has been discussed a lot. I am pretty sure that my iRiver iHP-120 is a self-powered USB device, but it is not showing up when I connect it to my 770 through a mini-B to mini-B cable. Could it be that the device still needs some power from the 770 for it to go into USB mode?

This is what I did:

I enabled the host mode through flashing and through the command echo host > etc... that was discussed before. Either way I get the same result.

I checked /proc/partitions and it isn't showing up there. I checked dmesg and I get:

[ 945.014465] Selected HOST mode: host controller present.
[ 945.014587] USB cable disconnected

So - aparently it's not recognizing that it is connected at all.

Does anyone have any experience with getting a self-powered device to work?

Thank you in advance.

im not sure but from what i read is that the usb on the nokia needs a power source fed to it in order for it to work. you will need to get a powered hub and use one of the hubs to route power to the nokia. there are several ways to do this but i think the safest method is to find one of those double connections usb cable. one end goes to the nokia and the double headed end will go into the usb hub and one of the outlet on the hub.

do a search, you will find clarification to what i am trying to explain. oh, i havent done it so i have no experience in doing so.

I know exactly what you are talking about. If that is the case then see the problem I am having. Thanks!

WARNING: When I clicked onto the link cited by dinacre above I intially reached what actually looked to be a very interesting site regarding the Nokia, but then within a few seconds was switched to a film clip showing a small robot device in action, which was very difficult then to get out of. Maybe my experience is an isolated one -- but be wary (unless you're interested in small robot devices!). It happened twice for me, and I was never then able to access the site itself.

yes, I know it, he started to switch his interest from 770 to other 'field' and the blog too. I hope lots of us will visit the blog and support him, he has done a lot in the 770 domain... try to go directly to http://thoughtfix.blogspot.com/2006_...x_archive.html. the video you saw is his new project, scared?
