I have an N810 with the original Nokia battery pack. A couple of days ago
I was using it in the vehicle mount as a GPS when it unexpectedly rebooted
(annoying, since I didn't have a paper map and had been actually using the
GPS rather than just playing as usual). After that, it seemed to randomly reboot when charging, not charge properly, not start up except on the charger etc.

I had removed the battery to try resetting the device and noticed that one
of the gold clips was at an odd angle. Looking at it again just now I see that of the 3 clips, two are really loose and can be moved around easily. When I put the battery back and put the device on the charger, with an ammeter inline (from trying to figure out why it wouldn't charge),
moving the battery slightly (1/4mm maybe) cause the current drawn to change (also the transformer noise from the charger), and the display backlight may come on or off. So it looks like I have a broken connection or two.

At this point, I cannot remember what the connections were like when the battery was new - I guess they are designed to float slightly.
There are 3 connections marked (+) (-) and ( ); one (I think "-")
is fairly firm but the others as I say are loose.

Has anyone had this problem before ?
What is the "normal" condition of the clips ?

I've only had this battery about 4 months, and haven't abused it particularly - though there may have been some vibration from the vehicle mount. I had a look to see if the plastic cap came off to check if the connections were really broken, but it's not that easy.

if it's the battery connection, remove the back cover. while the device is on try sliding the battery with your finger. if the device turns off when pressure is applied in either direction, the connection is at fault. i used electrical tape (easy to remove later down the road), and applied it to the bottom of the battery and the right side to create a tight fit. (several layers in the side).

I've a problem since the second say of my purchase. the first one went pretty smooth. the device would reboot whenever i would close the keyboard too fast. i figured out that the if i would shake the device too hard, the battery would loose connection.

I bought a new aftermarket battery (couldn't find a Nokia one, and given that it failed, not sure I want to). Things seem normal now. I can't make it fail by wiggling the battery.

I was wondering if vibration from the mount plus slight play in the battery position caused
fatigue failure. I may try a wedge as you suggest. Not sure whether to try and return
the original battery, or take it apart and see what exactly happened.
If the clips are not broken, but just not making contact with the connection pins properly,
it looks like it would be possible to squeeze them gently with needle-nose tweezers. Being gold-plated, there should be no corrosion problem or "bad spots".
