A few days ago I customized a couple of my icons (contacts/browser on desktop) using these instructions:

http://maemo.org/development/documen...tion_bora.html

Unfortunately I couldn't seem to get the icons to change even though they are the correct size/format etc and even after rebooting.

Fast forward to this morning: I dropped my N800 on the driveway (slipped on ice doh!), causing the battery to drop out. Lo and behold, when I put the battery back in and booted the device the icons had changed to my custom design.

Weird thing is, now I made a further customization to the icons but again cannot get them to change - even after pulling the battery for a while.

Anyone have any advice how to get the icons to display? Are there any xterm commands that might achieve this refresh?

Check the screenshots thread in general. xl1200c posted some commands.

What exactly did you do to customize the icons? Did you add new icons to the /usr/share/icons/hicolor direcotories? Or did you just modify the /usr/share/applications/hildon/*.desktop files to point to extant icons?

If you added new icons, you may need to update the icon cache. Do the following in an xterm:
Code:
sudo gainroot
gtk-update-icon-cache -f /usr/share/icons/hicolor
reboot
Now you should be able to reference the newly added icons in your *.desktop files.

Fixed: I deleted index.theme.cache and that did the trick!

Sorry for the massive bump and for taking this slightly off topic...

I had in OS 2008 an issue. The first time it happened was after I installed Pidgin. Tonight it was after installing some GPE stuff.

After those installs, the battery charge icon will not animate. In fact, it will no update at all! Also, if you are loading an application you loose the spinning wheel icon (in the top right pop-up) entirely.

This last time, the battery icon just plain vanished after a few minutes. Also, the web browser would crash very quickly as well. I figured that the the web browser crashes were related...

Rebooting... doesn't work. A reflash does work but is annoying as ever. However, the gtk-update command in your post worked flawlessly to remove this problem.

The web browser crashes were most likely related to the "mouse icon" that appears randomly to show a small busy watch before hiding again. If that was goofed up then I wouldn't know how the web browser would work. Needless to say, the web browser and the NIT work flawlessly now.

So, I thank you and I add my experiences to this thread... a bit off topic as they may be. If a future reader is having crazy problems with their status icons and alike then they might want to run this command.
