It's called a "White Screen of Death" (WSOD), and it's a hardware fault. You need to have the 770 repaired or replaced.

CHeck out this thread for some other people's experience with the same scenerio.
Unfortunately it is a hardware issue and cannot be fixed by the consumer.

and if nokia can find some reason not to fix it, they will make use of it 
770 start with sound normal, usb connect normal ...
I flash other version (include 2006, 2008HE) but not fix problem.
I remove battery over 3h but not fix problem.
Please help me to fix problem.
