So I thought I'd kick things off with a problem I'm having, though I'm posting with the intention that this turns into a general Google Talk on 2006 discussion (I mean the VOIP part specifically I guess).

Works fine between me and a friend when either one of us is connected to the desktop client. 770 to 770 just isn't working.

[] Although we both have pictures set up, they don't appear.
[] Calls get through, i.e. the client rings no matter who initiated the call, but when the other party answers, it says 'Connecting' until it times out.

Now it occurred to me that it might be a firewall issue so we disabled them at both ends, and added port forwarding for 5222 - still the same issue (though I'm not certain 5222 is for the voice part - it's on Google's help pages, could be just for the jabber text chat traffic..?)

Could it be that the desktop version uses some kind of port forwarding, maybe using UPnP? (that maybe the Nokia client can't do yet?)

I can't even get Google Talk connected to the server, are there others experiencing the same problem? I've got linksys wag54g adsl router and I can connect using my desktop. I even disabled the firewall but nothing changed.

Well I I'm fairly certain we've now tried every permutation of who initiates the call, who's on 770 and who's on PC, with and without firewalls and port forwarding...
Works fine when it's a PC and 770 regardless of who initiates the call and which of us is on PC/770, even with firewalls turned on and without port forwarding.

770 to 770 voice call just doesn't work no matter what we try .

Text chat works fine 770 to 770 in the same environment (firewalls, no port forwarding and all...)

there are so many bugs.

. sometimes or some account can not connect (can not pass athenticate)
. when connecting wlan or change presense of gtalk online state, 770 will reset (delete and change account may solve, but it may apear again)
. when received a call, 770 may reset
. when take a new call, it may always say "no answer" or other error
. contact application may generate may strange contact under gtalk group
. sometimes, internal mic is too sensitive. sometimes sensitivity is too low
. when gtalk is active and backlight is off, 770 may usually halt and can not come back again (sometimes, backlight will not light again). i have to pull out battery to restart the machine.

. (not a gtalk bug) fullscreen keyboard is too hard, we must press with much pressure (set pressure to lowest level). press characters near backspace will always triger backspace.

I'm having an issue w/ no contacts showing up in quick contact applet. Otherwise so far I've been able to have a few chat's w/o issue.

Hello,

I'm behind a firewall and neither gtalk nor chat work...
(I only have access to http, https and ssh ports)
I've also got a socks proxy running, that can help me bypass the firewall...

but... how do I configure the Nokia 770 to use a Socks proxy?!?!
(so that i can use Gtalk.. and chat...)

thanks.

At first, so did I. But if you go to the menu on the home screen, then select "Applet Settings", then "Speed Contacts"... it should show a list of your available contacts.

For each one you want to see on the Speed Contact menu, just tick the checkbox on the right.

Or did I misunderstand your problem?

Brad.

Voip from my 770 to a PC and vice versa worked great. I may be able to test 770 to 770 today if my buddy ever wakes up.

I dislike how contact management works. Ya have to be able to sort online/offline... you *have* to. I don't want to sort through several hundred contacts (even with the [A-D][E-H] quick index buttons) just to find the one or two people that are online.

Think about it. If you're sending them a chat/call request, they should be online.
