i can find rootsh, but can not find easyroot in maemo repository extras or extras devel.
Details:
Up till now, I have been using OS2007 with becomeroot, with no surprises - always worked as expected. Yesterday, I upgraded to diablo and installed easyroot. I then switched to root (both 'sudo gainroot' and 'root' methods give essentially the same results). The switch appears to work: that is, 'whoami' responds 'root', and the 'sudo gainroot' version takes me to the root directory as expected. However I'm a little doubtful whether I am _really_ gaining root privileges, as I set up a root passwd, but this password is not required during the root gaining process.
Anyway, the main problem is this. I have a directory of files that I need to make executable (well, really only a few need to be executable, but I'm lazy...). Currently, they have ownership 'user root' and permissions 644. 'chmod 755 *' or 'chmod a+x *' appear to work (that is, there are no error messages), but the file permissions don't actually change. On the other hand, 'chown root *' fails, giving "Operation not permitted" for each file.
In case it's relevant:
.The file system (on mmc2) appears to be writable (for example, I can copy the whole directory with no problems - but the copy ends up with the same permissions, and I am unable to change them either).
.What I'm trying to install is the kbdd package.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
