Today i just got an email from nokia... apparently it "just" was released... ya right

and i quote,

Internet Tablet OS 2006 edition - now available

The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet with the new software upgrade is now available for purchase through www.nokia.com/770. Based on Linux and Open Source technologies, OS 2006 edition is packed full of new features to help you get even more out of your Internet Tablet.

If you already have a Nokia 770, download the upgrade to your device at europe.nokia.com/770/support.
What you've been waiting for

Many of the features were implemented in response to the feedback received from current Internet Tablet users - so if there's a feature you've been waiting for there's a good chance you'll find it in the new upgrade.

Google Talk comes pre-installed, allowing you to send instant messages and make Voice over IP calls using the Internet. Typing on the tablet has also been made easier with the new full-screen finger keyboard.

Additional features include extended virtual memory, a new look and feel user interface, and an improved Home view which allows users to choose from a variety of applets that enable fast access to Internet services.

Nokia aren't the only slow ones - the news page on ITT still hasn't been updated to announce the official release of OS 2006... in fact the news page hasn't updated for over 2 months.

Seems as though ITT is becoming a forum-only portal (and a forum that gets spammed an awful lot to boot).

Yup, quite a disgrace on a 770 news site to not even have news of the 2006 OS on the front page. Extremely weak.

To be fair to Nokia, they are referring to the fact that you can now buy a 770 with 2006 OS pre-installed, which is a recent development as I ordered mine on the 14th (still awaiting delivery!) with 2005 OS. Hopefully the upgrade will go smoothly and it won't make a difference!!
