I found out that with certain mails (mails sent from an iPhone, that is), the OS2008 mail app doesn't display most of the text (except the last part) if the mail contains images.
The affected mails are multipart messages, starting with text and showing pictures in between. on my N800, all I see is the last text ("regards, ...") and all the pictures as attachments.
Here's how the mail should look like (received with Evolution on my desktop):
Note the text at the beginning. ("Die haben doch glatt auf jedem Arbeitsplatz einen N800 angeschraubt. …")
On my N800, what I get is this:
I get the image (all images if there are more), but I don't see any text except the last bit.
Yeah, I think I've seen that with one email, but it was random spam so I didn't care too much. I don't know if anyone has reported it yet - might be worth a quick visit to maemo bugzilla.
