Is it possible to remap keys so that the Home key or the Esc key (probably with a long key press) can be used to lock/unlock the N810?

The reason I ask is because I find the lock/unlock slider on the top-right of the N810 a bit hard to use, especially when the keyboard is slid open. A press of one of the two buttons on the front of the screen would be easier. I had a look at Powerlaunch to see if it could do it, but couldn't get my head round its config.

Would an auto-lock featuer work for you?

SlideLock (locks when you close the keyboard, unlocks when open):

Auto Lock (locks when the ambient light sensor is covered):

Thanks, I've taken a look at both of those, but they don't really suit what I want to do. I quite often want to unlock/lock the device without sliding the keyboard, and without actually putting it in my pocket (plus, I'm not sure I trust the ambient light sensor to lock it before I put it in the pocket, where something may activate the touchscreen on its way in). A way of mapping one of the keys on the face of the device would be great, if it were possible.

What I'm really trying to do is to make my device as easy to 'switch on and off' as my old Palm III and Dell Axim, which were one click of a button on the face.

I like SlideLock because I quickly got myself into a habit of sliding it open to use, much like a cellphone. I'm quite unsure of what got me into that habit, possibly the fact if you slide it open in a locked state it automatically unlocks. Either way I guess it really worked for me, and the times I want to close the tablet and still use it, you can still unlock it with the hardware unlock key.

There is a command line method for locking the screen, see here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=209444&postcount=6 .

dbus-scripts can run a script on many system events, one of them is home key pressed.

You can either config dbus-scripts by editting its configuration file, or use dbus-script-settings from extras-devel.

If you don't mind pressing two keys (like home and then dpad left), look at http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=28004 .
