I've now released Media Converter 1.2.

Basically it's a very nice update, some major improvements like user definable target directory, but most of all: improved quality.

So, it's a definately recommended download for anybody using media converter.

Download links and stuff in the blogpost here:

Doesn't work for me on XP. It creates empty files in the designated directory (haven't tried it yet with the old 'put in a 770 folder'...)

EDIT: nope, the old method creates an empty file, too

Same here. It appears both "high quality" and "very high quality" produce fails and empty files. "Medium quality" works, at least with the 30 second preview, saved both to the default directory and to a selected one.

I didn't try below "medium" as I don't use those settings.

Odd.. While I tested it, I had no problems what so ever.

I did hear from someone that there were problems encoding .vob files (they apparently worked in 30 preview mode, but not in full mode).

Could you send me an example video that doesn't word so that I could debug?

Actually, I'm filling up my Archos' 30 gigs right now , preparing for a longish trip abroad. I'll try to shoehorn a 770 run off a Divx avi in later.

I noticed some strange behaviour with MC 1.2. In my old 733 MHz win200 encoding was ok, but I had problems in 2.8 AMD XP, with winXP. No hope for 2-pass, otherwise get fail at once.
(Did not yet get to work at all with ubuntu dapper-quick test, propably I'm missing something important)

If it is of any help: all the files I tried to convert are coded with XVID for video, MPGA for sound, resolution 640x480, framerate 23.97. I'm using a one-year old Matroska Pack on my system to decode them.

Maybe it is a codec problem? Version 1.1 could handle the same files fine, though, with 2 passes and everything.

Sounds odd enough. mencoder is the same executable. I wonder if the setup file is somehow corrupted on the site. I'll have to check by downloading it from garage myself.

Cool, thanks for help to all of you guys in debugging the 1.2 beta.

1.2 Final is now available. Check on some notes and DL link at my blog:

I tried it with two video files: a .VOB file (decoded from a DVD with DVDdecrypter) plays fine (at least the 30 second preview, I don't have the time to encode Kill Bill 2 entirely). A Divx file (Lord Of the Rings, extended edition), which I "found" , appeared to encode well, but could not be played on either the PC (Windows Media Player) or on the 770. Both gave a generic error. With the previous version of Media Converter I could encode Divx files without any problem (although the ones I had for my SE P910 were a bit grainy on the 770, they played flawlessly after passing through MC).

As I am converting most of my old VCR collection into Divx files, not being able to convert those to the 770 is a bit of a problem for me.
