Hi,
You can find QLandkarte M here: www.wlandkarte.org
Krystan
QLandkarte M is a cartographic application that displays GeoTIFF maps (and Garmin maps but we already have something for this). The primary interest of the relatively new open standard GeoTIFF is it is used by many cartographic organizations that creates low scale maps (1:25000 or 1:50000) used for trekking. The existing map applications use Garmin, Google or Yahoo Maps which are not as precise as government maps. I've tried QLandkarte on my old Pocket PC (Linux booted from SD Card) and it runs beautifully. It's just that a Pocket PC screen is so far from the IT screen, and my PPC has no bluetooth, so it's not really useful.
QLandkarte M seems to be fairly stable, running on Linux over Pocket PC. It's using Qtopia 4.3, has a minimalistic, finger friendly interface. So, from the little I know about Linux, it seems to be easily portable on maemo and should be able to run fast enough even on a N770.
You can find QLandkarte M here: www.wlandkarte.org
You can find more about GeoTIFF here: geotiff.osgeo.org
BTW, there is also a big brother, QLandkarte GT, running on Linux PC with 3D display of altitude (Look at the second screenshot, the trekker dream!). If only someone could develop a driver for Open GL on Power VR, we could have 3D maps with altitude on the IT: The ultimate outdoor tool!
Hope someone will be interested in the port.
Krystan
