I have a Nokia 770 and I am trying to install drivers for a web camera. I have tried downloading the driver and installing the driver via the application installer, but it does not find a file to install. What is the format that the applications/drivers have to be in to install? .tar files? .deb files?

Thanks,

It does not work this way, you have to instal apps, especially compiled for Nokia770 for ITOS2006 or ITOS2005 (if you did not upgrade yet).
Apps have to be compiled for ARM CPU and Debian LInux...
Check www.maemo.org for apps ready for Nokia 770.

The file needs to be .deb, but are these drivers compiled to work with the 770? I wasn't aware of any web cam support for this device just yet. My guess is the reason the installer isn't working is because this driver hasn't been compiled for the 770.

Right, and .deb means it is under Debian, but it must be also .armel.deb for Nokia770 OS 2006, or .arm.deb for OS 2005

For all intents and purposes, as far as the average non-technical user should be concerned, any software (including any drivers) one wants to install has to be prepared specifically for the 770.

The fact that you can tinker and make some Debian ARM packages work is an enthusiast thing and not something a normal consumer should even care about. The rule of thumb should be that if it isn't specifically made for the 770, it won't work.

Thanks for the help! So if I download the development environment for the Nokia 770 from www.maemo.com, I can compile my webcam driver and then install it on the Nokia 770?
