My N800's bluetooth radio no longer works. When I boot it up and go to the Control Panel to turn bluetooth on and make it visible, the device hangs for a couple of minutes and the dialog box closes...but the bluetooth icon does not appear. When I relaunch the bluetooth control panel, it opens the dialog after a minute or so. Once open, the "device name" field is now blank, and if I enter new information and click ok it closes the dialog and doesn't even try to start bluetooth. If I click the "Devices" button on the dialog box to select a device to pair with, the panel hangs, and then the Devices window appears after about a minute. But it doesn't let me add any new devices (the new button clicks but the dialog hangs for a bit and then just closes).

Manually rebooting the device simply repeats this cycle of events. No new apps had been installed before this behavior started. I don't even know where to begin to debug this problem, and from the looks of the forums it's not a common issue, unlike the reboot loop that seems to happen to some people. Any help would be appreciated...

I found "/var/lib/blueooth/xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx/" and was able to determine that bluetooth was last used on Sunday (2/25) to connect to my Mac mini, which sounds right. That's what "lastused" reports. "lastseen" has a number of date entres for 2/13. (I don't know what "lastseen" indicates, though.) I definitely hadn't installed any apps between then and Monday when the behavior began.

Exactly the same thing happened to me.

I was happily using DUN via bluetooth to my phone earlier today.

I was able to get the bluetooth back up and working by opening control panel, clicking on the "control panel" pulldown at the upper left, and selecting "restore original settings."

It lost my desktop arrangement, and I had to re-enter my connection settings. But I didn't loose any software or files.

I'm able to pair up with my laptop and phone now.

Hope it works for you. . .

Bob

I haven't observed that BT hasn't been working, but I've twice had a case where when I looked into the control panel I could see the BT name was empty and visibility was off (I don't think I actually tried BT at the time, but I wouldn't be surprised if it would be negatively affected by this). I then had a look into the actual configuration file (xterm+more) and everything was ok there. I don't know a way (yet) of restarting the applets, so I just rebooted to see what happened. The control panel showed BT as ok then (name and visibility). As I said, I've seen this twice. Must be some hickup in the control panel/BT applet or something.

@TA-t3 - I've seen that too, in my case it was blank so I tried to re-save the BT device name but each time after saving the dialog came up with a blank name. Rebooted and it was fine again.

I now steer well clear of the BT Control Panel applet.

Bluetooth functionality is definitely flaky in the last official OS release. I believe it's being addressed.

Well, countless reboots hasn't brought it back. I'm a bit wary of restoring to the defaults, too. I'm not even sure what the does...it won't de-install apps will it? Can anyone tell me what exactly I'm gonna lose when I restore original settings?

Ta-t3...what file did you examine to determine the settings? There didn't appear to be a config file in /var/lib/bluetooth/.

@crackhead: /var/lib/bluetooth/<your-BT-mac-address>/config
