I got all 3 copies of "shocking asia", part 1, 2, 3. And it looks very interesting. It was done in 1985 - 1995. Problem: the copy I got has BOTH english and Russian on a stereo track and they talk at the same time. I am sure nobody listen to two languages simultaneously. Is there a switch or command that one can use to select a particular language? I have tried VLC and mediaplayerclassic. In the past, I came across people dubbed a video with 2 languages on a stereo track, one language on the L and one language on the R. But these particular copies of "shocking asia" has both languages on L and R. I tried to search for another copy, no luck Any suggestions? I really really want to watch this one, they have a lot of very very strange Asian cultures. Maybe I should try Afterdawn? TIA,

The files are 700 MB each, for a total of 2.1 G, if anybody interest to host it or anybody interest in a copy...maybe we can work something out. It is a very interesting documentary.

I am watching on a window$ box.

When you say you 'tried vlc' i assume you tried changing the track in the audio menu?

You might be able to use the channel or pan filter on mplayer.

mplayer filename -af channels=1:0:1:1
(copy right channel onto left and copy onto self so it remains in place)

mplayer filename -af channels=0:1:0:0
(copy left channel onto right and copy onto self so it remains in place)

YMMV, as I've not tested this.

THanks for the info.

@overfloat: Yes, I tried to change audio track, but it has only 1 track.

@lardman: I doubt this will work, as the audio track are on BOTH L and R channel. But I will give it a try later tonight.

Hmm, well if both languages are combined on each channel there's no way of extracting them again (other than lots of fancy filtering to remove one person's voice, and I'm not even sure that would be very good).

Are you sure they've actually been combined (seems like a stupid thing to do as no-one will be able to use it now) and it's not your media player which is combining some channels (perhaps not L&R, but perhaps one language is on the rear speaker channels, etc.)?

An app like gspot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) should be able to tell you about the number of channels that are in the avi file.

Yup. I love gspot ... the program. Checking the rear speaker is a very good thought, as it is really dumb to have both language simultaneously. I would take a look to see whether it has 2 channels or surround sound. But on changing the balance on L and R, they seemed to lump together. and I have checked, the copies flowing around are either Russian only or Russian+English both on the same channel. What a bumber! You know, I like that documentary so much, I will just pay more attention to "listen between lines". It is still better than no sound.

Edit: My stereo setup automatically switch to surround sound if available. I am afraid the original may be surround sound (with rear speaker on different language) but copies are made with stereo and thus lost the capability of separate the two language.

A little bit side track, different topic. I came across a video clip, HD format that runs very well on the N800, I would like to host it here for people to dl and watch, to see how good/smooth/pretty the N800 video could run, but it is 350 MB. Anybody want to host it? For the time being, if anybody wants a copy, can PM me, I can try to send it with AIM, on a one to one basis, only if someone interested.

When you say HD format, you mean 800x480? or one of the "real" HD formats, like 1280x720 or 1920x1080? I can't imagine that the last two formats would run well on the N8x0; I can't even get an 800x480 video to run well.

I have found that the nicest looking video is 400x240, 600-800 kbps.

I suggest you use VirtualDub and cut out a 20MB section of the video, and I could host that.

I presume you could find a subtitles file somewhere on the 'net, that might help with separating the English from the Russian voices in your head.

I'm still interested in this though, seems very odd to combine the languages like that (in fact unless it's a mistake, and they've made the same mistake on all 3 files, I'll bet there's some way to separate them).

I stumbled upon this, might be worth a go (Windows Media filter which can separate out multiple audio tracks from an avi (which I presume is what you have)): http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/dual-audio.htm

Regarding the 'good behave' tv clip, the source is from hdtv and I do not think the encoded clip is any HD. Sorry if I raise everybody's HI hope about the tablet. gspot report 624 X 352, this is the best behaved encode I have seen AND is bigger than 400 X 240. I think it deserved to be looked at by AV buff to see what is their parameters to make it so well behave in Diablo. How can I publish the gspot report? please do not suggest to type it out, i know that. I mean is any screen capture program for me to upload the gspot report?

Len 54:25.987; Frms 78,306; kbps754 Qf0.143; pic (wX 624 x 352 sar 1.773....

And I also have the gspot report for my Shocking Asia, just do not know how to post it.

qole, me bad, nothing close to that , however, it is still very well behaved. If you have limewire, bittorrent or whatever p2p you usually use, try dl this clip, "L Word s04e12 Hdtv Xvid-Notv.avi", it runs very well on the tablet and gspot quot dimension as 624x352.

File info when using mplayer:

Video codec: XVID
bitrate: 787 kbps
resolution 624 x 352
audio codec mad
audio bitrate: 64 kbps
audio samples: 48000 Hz, 2 ch.
