Hi all,

I've just setup an email account via the wizard on a new N800

I'm now getting a SMTP error when trying to send an email out, however I can receive emails no problem.

Can anyone help me to get into the email account via the control panel to re-configure it as this account does not feature on the accounts list.

I've since set up a g mail account and this does feature on the list so I guess I must be looking in the right place?

The email account that I can't see is a btinternet.com email address.

I know it exists somewhere on the system as the properties did appear once on my screen following another failed attempt to send an email and I was able to alter the properties but to no avail

If only I could get back in I'm sure I could play about and sort it out !!

BTW great forum, and I hope I'll be able to contribute at a later stage once I find my way around

Thanks
Steve

Hi jortiz,

Thanks for the tip.

I've now experimented with various settings/outgoing host names ect, I still can't send out mail on my BT Yahoo account - just getting the error "SMTP authentication failed"

Any one else on a BT account having this problem?

Steve

Don't know if this will help, but I had an similar problem when trying to send email using a network different than my home ISP (and email account holder). (Note: I received mail on the secondary ISP with no problem.) Currently, when I'm connected to the secondary ISP and trying to email, I change my outgoing smtp to that of the secondary ISP server. There could have additional changes to my email account setup (as indicated by jortiz), but I don't recall. Sorry. Try googling for more info.

Good luck!

Hi Steve63,

Sounds like you have to configure authentication (error "SMTP authentication failed").
I don's have my n800 with my now so I can't give you exect walkthru, but check your email-account information on PC (where sending mail is working) especially authentication settings (SSL, port 465 etc.) and copy those to n800's email settings - additional settings or something (I'm using Finnish interface)...

Good luck!

Hi all,

Thanks for the help, nothing else has worked for me since (even replicating outlook as kris suggested) - after several calls to BT support they told me they didn't support the operating system so I gave up

I've now switched to gmail - what a revelation

Thanks again,
Steve.

Bump!

I was having the same problem with sending working at home but not through other connection points (notably through the phone).

I resolved this by configuring the send email account to use different smtp servers based on connection which is a choice on the third account configuration screen on the N800. Worked great for me on an ex-cingular account (now att) using the smtp address cwmx.com. I configured the smtp server to not need authentication.

My email account is through the ISP I use at home so that works fine with the smtp server associated with that account. I have not tried it with random wireless connections.
