I made another post regarding this, but its been a while and havent got any replies. so here it goes here.

Has anyone had a problem recently with seeing shared folders in windows vista? I went to transfer a file a little while ago and it isnt seeing any shared folders on either of my vista computers. I reset my modem/router and the problem still persists.I tried conecting to a totally different pc on my brothers network and still not seeing shared folders. I though it may have been that I did a clean vista install on both my pc's using a developer activation (dont ask) LOL. But when I tried connecting to my brothers pc I couldnt see his shared folders either. I did a search for updates that may have broken sharing and only found one apparently confirmed one and I uninstalled that update but the problem still persists. Any idea why it isnt seeing windows shared folders like it always has?

Yes. The network sharing is not stable as we want it to be. I am not running Vista but XP and I am seeing the same problem sometimes. During a transfer, it can die on you even the tablet still can see the shared folders.

I would suggest to use SSHFS instead.

I have tried DokanSSHFS and it looks like it is stable enough. See this.

1. Download/Install the lib and the sshfs here .
2. On the tablet create a password for root, for example.
3. On the PC, enter tablet IP for host, the user/password for DokanSSHFS, server root with /media.
4. On the PC, open My Computer then drag and drop.

( @munky261: this is not for you, developer! but maybe someone else needs it! )

Or you can use WinSPC. See this.

The thing is, this just happened all of a sudden it seems....no shared folders will come up for any vista or xp machine....everything was just fine for me for a while and all of a sudden, cant see my shared folders I use to transfer files to my tablet. Did a windows update break sharing folders to the tablets?

Did you re-enable the sharing file option on the Windows PC again after the update?
At least another PC should be able to see the shared folders on your PC.

Yes, I just went and messed with the settings and apparently password protected sharing was on, I disabled it and now all is well. I swear that it was enabled before when i was able to see them, cause when I would access folders from my other pc it would ask for a password. Oh well , as long as I can see the folders on my tablet again Im happy. LOL

Its only going to get worse. I've been fighting the shared folder problem since the N810 was released. There are many alternative apps, but none is more easy to use then setting up a HTTP File Server and use Nokia's browser to transfer files. The plus side is that HFS works with any internet device regardless of OS.
