Hey guys, I'm wondering how expandable the desktop system is.

If I understand it right, you get 4 panels (the panoramic desktop) on which you can add your widgets and almost anything.

I understand there is a limit of 4 right now and you can't add more (not easily anyway).

HOWEVER, is it possible to take a basic "DesktopPanel" and extend it so that you create basically a fullscreen widget (which would really be a full blown "app" at this point)?

So basically as you slide through your 4 desktop panels, one (or more) of them is more than just a widget container, its actually manages its own graphics, updates, and manages input.

Thanks.

i dont see a point in that. yes it might be cool but it takes lot more time to get things done than traditional menu-surfing way.

It could be used for a lot of things. Just offhand I could imagine a simple expanded panel where the only change is that the background dynamically acts out the weather in your area.

Obviously there's a weather widget, but who cares. Some people may like the weatherized background and some may prefer a widget.

There are other uses that would be better served with dynamic panels than widgets.

Widgets can only cover the area below the status menu, and the only input handling is a basic click.

Adding completely different views is pretty much out of scope for desktop widgets, and would probably be easier accomplished by modifying and replacing hildon-desktop itself.
