I use kmplayer on my windows laptop. Is this better than that?

Before I spend the weekend futilely trying to compile VLC on my N800 is there a repository for this new version? I'm a sucker for GUI point and install.

I have no idea if VLC runs on NITs, I posted in Off-Topic as this, to me, is a non-NIT app.

Maemo support was recently enhanced by a Google Summer of Code student:

The change log shows that update between 0.9.9a and 1.0.0 improved the interface.

There's no maemo version. Well one that works decently at least. And it's not up to date.
