Ok I initially, unboxed the phone, placed the sim in and used it for about 3-4 hours until the phone completely died on me.

Then I swapped out the sim, back to my other phone, put it on charge for about 2 hrs. I went to put the sim back in, but forgot to put the battery in, and hit the power button. Went to put the battery back and in dropped it from about waist level on to the office floor. Put the battery back in and it's not powering up.

I hooked it back up to the charger and the little green led flashes. However the phone will not turn on.

Thoughts anyone?

Put it back on the charger for at least the next 4 hours as I am out the door.

Hmm, you are pressing and holding the power button right? You have to hold it for about 5 seconds.

yes i did that, owned several nokia products, and this is just not powering on, i'm hoping my mistake of not putting the battery in and hitting the power didn't do anything to it.

Never dropped the device, just the battery to the device.

I've had multiple older tablet devices refuse to turn on.. usually taking the battery out for a few minutes seems to solve the problem. There's been similar reports on the Nokia discussions site.. Dropping the battery probably doesn't do it any good, but on the same note it could be a dude.. know anyone with a 5800??

I'm not sure the device will charge unless the OS has booted?

Hmmm the device turned on initially, used it till dead, put it on the charger for about two hours, when i did put it on the charger the first time, i notice a diminished in brightness nokia logo come up and the led was yellowish. When it didn't turn on I put it back on the charger, and the light flashed green I believe, but still wouldn't turn on even with the charger in it. Maybe not enough juice but over 2hrs i'm skeptical, i'll try taking it out when I get back to the phone, and trying again.

One other poster here thinks that's the case.

The OP might try charging his battery in another phone, or buy an aftermarket battery charger.

These guys dropped their N900 (um, repeatedly) with no catastrophic effect.

Thats interesting with os and sub os, the nokia logo coming on initially probably means sub os came on, but that means I may have to find a compatible phone, any us providers carry any so I can use the demo model to get a small charge on the battery.

Wait - you used the phone until the battery completely died?

Thats not so good. Apparently the N900 needs to be able to at least partially power on in order to charge. I suspect you have a dead battery. I have just ordered an external charger off ebay to get around this exact issue.
