Went to Best Buy retail electronics store last night. Big display showing of their new "LED High Def TV". After interogating the salesperson, he finally admitted that the display is LCD but the back-lighting is white LED's. Actual LED displays are in heavy commercial use in those huge displays that you see at sporting events. Those displays are almost unviewable when standing just a few feet away. According to Best Buy then, the screens on our NIT's have LED displays.
Yeah, LED TVs are just TVs where the fluorescent backlight has been replaced with LEDs. The do look good though. And at some point (when all of red/green/blue LEDs can be manufactured cheaply with similar performance) there'll probably be 'real' consumer LED TVs too.
