Hi, first of all I am sorry for posting the same issue again, But I believed it got hidden in here and people that can help did not get a chance to read it.

I am having issues signing into ICQ Messenger, I can sign into Skype, MSN, Yahoo with absolutely no issues and my contacts amazingly get merged in. But ICQ keeps saying " NOT SIGNED IN". I have tried to mess with the advanced settings but to no avail. Any help would be greatly Appreciated. most of my friends and family are on ICQ and I would like to stay in the loop too. Thanks in advance!

Step one: check if you can log into ICQ using traditional means. This to rule out any remote problems with the protocol/server and your account.

Step two: verify that your user ID and password is correct and works. Once upon a time, my password stopped working. Damned Russians.

I'd also include a step three: try it in alternative N900 software, i.e. Pidgin.

Hello, Thank for your help, I really do not know how to check if I can log into ICQ using traditional means..Also I am assuming that my Password and ICQ number are working properly since I am able to sign in to ICQ on my laptop. and again I do not know how to try it in an alternative N900 software, i.e. Pidgin. I am very hoping to get this solved as soon as possible because all my people are on ICQ. Again and always thanks in advance.

Well, to sign in on your laptop would be to check if you can log into ICQ using traditional means. Basically just to check that ICQ isn't down. So that would verify step one.

As for checking your password, having it log in automatically count. It means that the one you once upon a time typed into ICQ is correct, but not really that the one you typed into ICQ is the one you think you remember. Maybe you can log in on the icq2go web service on icq.com. If you successfully log in there, the username and password you're trying to use is correct.

For step three, you can attempt to download Pidgin from your application manager, and try ICQ there. If it works in Pidgin, chances are that there's some settings that's been keeping you from signing on.

So checking the settings you have on the N900 would be step four. Maybe ICQ changed their server or server port? Or worse, maybe they changed their protocol so that the N900 software isn't currently in a working state - I can't check that for you since my ICQ account is no longer available.

I downloaded PIDGINT INTERNET and Yes! I can get it to connect on there with the same username number and password I use on my Laptop. But I am still unable to get on ICQ from PIDGING PROTOCOLS PLUGINS FOR CONVERSATIONS AND CONTACTS app. I can sign into Yahoo messenger and MSN messenger just fine but ridiculously ICQ keeps showing the depressing staus "NOT SIGNED IN". my Settings are the follwing:

Server : login.messaging.aol.com

PORT: 5190

use Ssl >>>>>>UNCHECKED

Always use Rv proxy>>>UNCHECKED

Allow Multiple Logins>>>CHECKED

Charset is set to>>>UTF-8

that is all the settings I can see on there, I tried to update apps but it keeps saying there is no undates available.

That looks correct to me. Maybe someone who is using ICQ on the N900 can confirm if those are the correct settings.

One thing you might try temporarily is to switch from port 5190 to 443 and at the same enable SSL.
Then there seems to be an alternative server login.oscar.aol.com, you can try that as well.
If that doesn't work, switch back.

Also, in this thread, it seems people have already experienced the same problem as you do, and discussed solutions. It doesn't really seem like they found an universal solution except using Pidgin.

I tried switching the Port but to no avail. I really have no idea if anyone on the thread is using ICQ or not, I mean other than just on PIDGING INTERNET. I have yahoo and MSN working properly but I tried jabber and facebook they did not sign in either. OMG!! I really wish I knew how to fix this. Thank you!!
