Sigh.

First off, I would like to apologize if I was ever an annoying noob guy.

That being said, there has been an explosion of annoying noob guys, starting new (often mis-spelled) threads about things covered ad nausium (yes, ad nausium even for me and I've only been here since March)...

For instance, how many Android threads do we need? (that one was on the top of my head.)

So, I am offering up my services, if a mod wants to give me a list of related threads, I will gladly merge the pertinent information together. I think it would help a lot, making information easier to find.

Just a suggestion (if not me, someone... please.).

Jay,

If there's no "One Thread To Rule Them All" in a specific topic area, feel free to head over to wiki.maemo.org and start a page on the topic, putting all of the relevant info in one place. Then we can all link to that page when a new person comes and asks an old question.

On the topic of wiki pages and Android, I have a page on Alternative Operating Systems and Quim started a FAQ. Feel free to add to either of those pages.

The User category on the wiki has tons more great info...

also, as a general note: i don't feel too happy about the anal fixation about "clean threads" that i believe is increasing in this place recently. (that's not talking about you, jay, it's a general remark.)

while a forum does need a certain amount of organization, it's still mainly a place to talk, to chat. like mailing lists and irc. i don't believe a forum makes a good structured knowledge base. that's what a wiki or even a static website is for.

so maybe we should be more relaxed with threads moving completely off topic after a while or duplicate threads. in spite of all these things i've always found information i was looking for here. you don't search for thread titles and then read through 1038 posts hoping somebody will mention your specific problem, do you? you do a keyword search and get single postings as a result - no matter what thread they're in.

I always use the Gaegle search (in my sig). Works A LOT better (for me) than the standard search.

My thing is that I always feel compelled to try to answer questions that I know something about, and some of them could so easily be remedied by a quick search beforehand.

I think we should put the Gaegle search in EVERYONE's sig, or make it an option on the right. It's so nice (I don't know if GeraldKo set it up, but he's the one who introduced it to me, so thx to him).

Don't get me wrong, I like the convos that evolve here, so a total cleaning would hamper that type of thing.

My point is that some things are really hard to find, so it's hard to blame these foo's for posting the <dumb> questions.

Gaegle is where it's at.
