Hello meamo community

I'm hoping for my N900 to arrive soon and I've mostly heard good things about it! However, I'm a bit scared that something goes wrong so here some general questions:
  1. What is this "Light leak" some people talk about?
  2. What should I check, when I get it, in terms of functionality (How to find dead pixels?)
  3. What Screenprotector should I get? I've read lots of reviews and seen so many pros and cons that I'm pretty unsure
  4. and a bit off topic: Has anyone ever tried VNC on a 3G network? Is it usable? Can it be switched to black-and-white?

I would very much appreciate some answers to this, and im so exciiiiiiiited about my new phonyphony

Welcome to the forums
1. i haven't seen anything about that, but light leak generally means light can be seen where is shouldn't: either the screen does no go perfectly black when it should (it stays a little gray - usually called light bleed), or it "spews" through edges and parts of plastic that are not properly colored
2. dead pixels are pretty obvious, because they're either always dark or always lit up. Check your microphone, reception, see if the device reboots randomly, look around for more possible issues
3. you'll never get a correct answer for this type of questions; it's always your call
4. never tried, but there might be other problems beside speed, like your pc not having a public ip and therefore not being accessible from the larger internet. From my experience with vnc over ethernet (even that was slow), i don't think it would work to well
Have fun with your new toy!

Welcome to the forums Nopnop.
Take a look at the N900 wlecome post for help and support links - here

Most of the above should have been mentioned in other posts, so the search and advanced search facilities are your friend

1) Has been discussed, can't find it though.
2) Check any reviews, and guides
3) Case/screen protector thread is here
4) Yes, works fine for me - as long as i'm on 3.5g - little jittery on 3g. Not sure on the B&w bit though, maybe worth a separate post of finding a suitable VNC post if there is one

Hope that helps.

I use it now and then. It's slow on 3G but usable in a pinch. Never tried to go black + white only, don't know if you can.

Yes, I've tried that. But unfortunately vBulletin () won't let me reply to any other thread than my own one. Maybe some1 can help there.

I still don't know about the protector thought about this mysterious "Qubits" one, but for the reason stated above, I can't ask where 2 buy it in Europe ( Germany ).

Not sure what you mean about the "Won't" let you reply? - as long as you are registered and logged in i'm sure there is a reply button?

Check the Wiki page on accessories, there is an Amazon UK link for Qubits. Also when i googled i found a few places.
