Will installing a Maemo app work on the n900 or does it have to be a "Maemo 5" application only?

What do you mean by Maemo app? All applications on Maemo devices are technically Maemo apps. Do you mean older Maemo applications?

Theoretically you can install them but due to their design they may have the following problems..

a) dependencies no longer exist (they won't work)
b) they will install to rootfs, which you have very limited space causing a memory issue down the line (because they're not optified since they were meant for older tablets that had a different partition file system).

"Meamo!" sounds like what Zorro would say to catherine zeta jones... after she slaps him for looking at her dirtily...

Additionally, Maemo 5 is not api-compatible with older versions of itself, meaning many applications just will not work.

yes thank you sorry I was wanting know if a person could go to maemo-apps.org and download something like carman 0.5.1 for example and would it work on the N900. From your post it is sounding like I should wait a little while.
