First post....
Well then- glad to be here and I've been lurking for weeks as I wanted to research the best "PDA" to get. Had an HP RX3715 and it was one heck of a device. I loved it until it was sold. Then a Fujitsu P1120 was my primary portable for some time. It was also great. But it was still too big! The new Fujitsu U810 is half that size, but I really wanted to get something closer to the size of the RX PDA for complete portability. You know I was tempted to get a smartphone- but browsers were more like a crippled version of the RX's, which was poor to start with. I needed something better!
Enter the Nokia IT range of products.
The wife bought it for me as an early Xmas gift (Whoohooo!!!!) and I promptly went for the 2k8 upgrade. It went flawlessly, save the issues getting the 2k8 firmware (needed to use a torrent)
Now the device is great, and sexy GUI, but there are a few issues. I've read about the repositories not working properly for whatever reason. So I cannot use Python-enabled software. This leaves Kagu out of the picture (Waah. I really wanted it too..) So I'll wait for that issue to get fixed and enjoy what I have now.
But the real issue is the browser. Maemo has this issue the most- it says connecting... at the bottom of the browser but never does. This is intermittent and usually happens on the third clicked link on a site. If I restart the browser it usually will stop misbehaving. I just want to know if anyone else is having this issue with browser hangs and if there is a solution that doesn't require using the unavailable repos???

I have not seen this on my new N800 recently flashed to OS2008.

Are the repo's still having problems? I seem to be able to update/install everything at the moment.
As for the browser issues... well, I haven't come across any to be honest. Are you sure that it does nothing? Sometimes it takes a while (AFAIK, MicroB downloads the whole page before displaying, which can give a wrong impression if the page/complex is large or the site is small).

HTH and welcome to the family.

"Dont" says he doesn't have the problem I do. I wish I was in the same boat. And the repos are still whacked, but it could just be my device. I have duplicate entries and I've read that may be a problem. But again, that's okay as I can still deal without the eye candy Python will bring, for now.
My browser is still acting up. It tells me that there was a connection error once it times out. I am using a WRT-54G and WPA that doesn't have any trouble with other wifi devices. It's disappointing as the whole reason this device is so great is browsing on the move, but here I am trying to restart the browser just to get the device to work. So I've gone back to using the notebook PC for my browsing needs
Thanks for your post and welcoming attitude!
EDIT:
The things I want to work are:
YouTube video (Works, Nicely!)
Full browser functionality with flash 9, Etc. (Trouble listed above.)
Calendar (Works)
Kagu (can't install Python runtime, repo issue)
Voice recorder (Works!)
Map (Still can't get the map file for east coast)
Skype (WORKS!!!!)
maemopad+ (Can't get the repo to work)

There are other apps I'd like to install but for the most part I've had success with the main apps I need.

Looks like I found a solution. This problem is listed in bugzilla as bug 1636. It'ss the sleep timeout for wlan, and after entering the command in xterm, my browser now goes forward and back without the blasted hangs and stalls. In fact this post has been written with my n800 as it's now become the device it originally promised! If your browser occasionally says connecting... when trying to move in liinks or back/forward functions, please try this fix. Edit: looks like this post failed just as before. Back to the drawing board.
