I was browsing a website, than later decided to favor it and put it on my desktop as a shortcut.. "Add shortcut to desktop". The problem is the name is very long, I would like to change it to something else. How do I go about doing so? Thank you!

delete the thingy from your desktop. open internet browser. press and hold on the bookmark, menu pops up and press edit or change or whatever looks like you need. and there you can change it. then put the shortcut back again on your desktop.
I dont know if it will change if you do not delete it and just keep it on your desktop. dont think this will update.

in the future, you can change the name when bookmarking the page.

Also note that at the time you bookmark the page, the image you see in the browser is the image which will be on your desktop when adding the shortcut, so think about this, since i like a nice image on the favorites link on my desktop. good luck.

I'm not sure it puts the url or name on the dsktop. All the bookmarks I have on the desktop just appear as little images of the screen taken when the bookmark was made.

It 'freezes' the page to make the bookmark - so although I have changed the t.m.o. settings to view a dark theme on n900, the bookmark still shows as classic orange and grey (which I rather like, actually).

I don't think you'll see the name at all. Try it.

Open it the way it is now from your desktop.

While it is opened in the browser, choose to save it as a "Bookmark".

Save it in the name you would rather have.
Close the browser.

Now delete the desktop shortcut.

Now save this bookmark on the desktop and it should have the name you chose instead of the makers page title.

Also good to know:
The image of the bookmark will be of your actual view of the page when you saved it. So, if there is an icon or title on the page that would give it more distinction on your desktop, zoom to that first before saving.
