Like the title says, how do I get videos on to my N900?

PC Suite video manager doesn't detect my phone so it won't transfer videos.

I have videos that I ripped and converted myself to use with my 3rd gen iPod nano. Can I transfer those and if so, how? I also have the full sized videos I used to make my nano copies, do I use those to transfer?

Noob here so don't hate pleez.

Hi Batman, jflatt is right, when yo uplug your n900 into your pc - you should get an option on your n900 to use Mass Transfer mode" when you select that option it will appear just like a memory stick would on your pc
(Go into my computer, and you should see it there!)

With regards to getting a movie on, thats quite simple, getting it playing will / optimized for the n900 is a different story.

Google search Iphone size videos, they will all work fine on the n900 and some video programs will rip/resize your videos to that size....

For my dvd collection i have been using DVD decrypter and gordian knot (Both are rather old, and there are other replacements )

If you search the forums there are some good posts like this one

I use 'Handbrake' to convert my videos. Totally free program (just search google). Using the regular high profile settings (pull out menu to the right), and make sure you change the output settings of the video codec to Mpeg4 (left hand side). They will play perfectly on your N900 everytime!

Cool I have been looking for something like this. I had a 'preloaded' trailer for the Movie '9' on my phone...it is in MP4 format and is CRYSTAL CLEAR !!!

Would you recommend handbrake for that as well or is there a thread on "To create the perfect sized, optimized high quality videos for your n900 you .............?"

Just a small update; you can put them in any folder under MyDocuments (i.e. the folder that is visible by default in mass storage mode) and Tracker will index them.

I have to admit i've struggled to get anything quite that clear - but i'm close. I find it really does depend on the movie/dvd. as soon as i get to a formula that works on most dvd's i'll post back
