I thought it was USB On The Go that wasn't supposed to be possible. Reading Wikipedia there appears to be a subtle differentiation between the two but that might just be my reading of the article.
Anyone with more knowledge care to offer comments?

i dont think there is anyway to send power down the cable to the device..
but i dont think there should be any issue in reading memory cards

Seem like no one commenting on this? If this USBCONTROL app can enable the use of keyboard and mouse then this is a brilliant news. But can anyone out there who has the micro-USB adapter trying this out ?

usbcontrol doesn't do anything useful. If you want to know more about the n900 and usb I suggest looking at this thread http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=31921
I thought N900 doesn't allowed USBHOST?
