Hi,

My n900 crashed during web browsing a few days ago, it sometimes does, when I click on a link.
But it just restarts and works perfectly afterwards.

However this time i had the charger in, and when it restarted it vibrated once, the screen did not light up but the nokia logo was there.
Then it turned of, and restarted again, vibrating once and unlit screen.

It kept doing this seeminglt forever (i left it lying for 5 hours)

When I unplugged the charger it stopped, and when I tried turning it on it vibrated once, the screen lit up properly and all, but it never got further then the nokia logo. It shut of, and didn't restart on it's own.
And it kept doing the same thing every time I tried starting it.

So far I have:

1: Taken out the battery, plugged in the usb-kabel to the computer and then put in the battery, this worked for some, but not for me, it just started looping like when I had the charger in

2: Tried using the "regular charger adapter" to see if it was a battery problem: and if it responded better to a proper charger, no difference there.

3: Tried flashing it, I never got further then where I should hold the "u" key on the devices keybord and plug in the usb-kabel. When I did that I got no usb symbol in the upper right corner, it just started the loop again.

So, now I beg you people. help me fix this device, I don't feel like turning it in for service for 3 weeks

If your device ignores pressing the u button and looks like it is trying to boot (best way to tell is the screen lights up.. if the u key works, it should stay unlit) then chances are your battery is flat..

I know you've spoken about charging, but a faulty n900 (one that doesn't boot or run right) will often not charge at all, no matter what signs it is giving you

find someone with another N900, 5800. X6 or 5230 handset and use theirs to charge your battery..

you can't flash until the battery is full..

Doesn't necessarily have to be full. Over 50%, I think, is the safe threshold.

But if I have enough battery, there really is no reason why a flash shouldn't work?

I can probably get my hands on one of those phones and solve the problem.

But I want to be "sure" that a flash is possible.

Thanks guys

So please provide your exact flashing steps. Exact, I mean. ;-)

Im using that guide,

I charged my battery in my friends 5800, and it showed full power.

However I can't det the computer to discover the device when I plug it in, I get the usb symbol in the top right corner, however only when I hold down the "u" key and then plug in the usb-kabel.

Do I have any chance of fixing it myself? Or is a service the only option?

I'm pretty sure that's what's supposed to happen. Have you actually tried to do the flashing process again yet?

The canonical place for a guide how to reflash a device is located at http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

I followed your advice and just tried the flashing, even though the computer couldn't find my device.

And it worked!

Thanks a lot guys, Im very greatful.

Funny thing, my calender entries are all still there, I thought flashing it would bring it back to square one.

Once again, thanks

If you did the eMMC flash, you would get this result with your calendar. But if you got what you needed you should be good to go.
