I'm afraid to say that after being on vodafone for the last few weeks whilst the sim issue has been resolved on 3, the reception on 3 is nowhere near as strong as that on Vodafone!

Anyone else noticed this?

I have just a had a good chat with vodafone re their 500mb limit. They were convinced 3 gave the same but 3 in fact allow 1gb of data - just checked, before they slow the service down or charge per mb. Vodafone are putting in a plan change request to maybe offer the same or allow an upgrade to 1gb for a small extra charge - like £5 per month which I think is acceptable.

I am going to test my download usage for a month with everything on as the n900 intended to see if I go over. Vodafone are keen to learn how much of an issue this might be for phone like the n900 as they are now selling them.

If you want the same, suggest giving them a call. I can see video downloads, app downloads and use of Napster and internet radion could soon blow 500mb tbh.

So you've rung them and asked for an upgrade on the 500mb limit? I'm with Voda and I really think 1gb is neccessary...

I'll pay £5 for it if they'll do it for me! I did the firmware update ota via 3g yesterday - that's 90meg gone already. I listen to the radio online with it all day everyday during the week... I need more data!!!

Please keep us updated, one of the reasons i am holding off is to wait for Tmobile to get contracts up and running again. I heard the Data limits were much better. My flat mate is on vodafone and has brilliant reception where i live so this could be an option, IF Voda take heed and listen to their customers

Vodafone UK do have their own forum so it may be worth registering and adding your response to one of the existing threads on the 500MB limit. I fully agree that it's too low for a device like the N900 but currently Vodafone don't agree and claim there are no plans to up the limit.

Irritatingly, if you take an Iphone you get a 1GB limit instead...

I`m with 3 and I love it.Sure the reception is bad (especially in Kent and North London area) but you can`t beat 1gb of data for 15 pounds a month (plus unlimited texts and 300 minutes). Also, you are not stuck with a contract.I got the N900 from gumtree for 350, a sim only from 3 with no strings attached and I`m a happy camper!

I agree with JohnMcL7 join the voda forum or ring them directly - I spent about 15 mins chatting through with someone english - that'd never happen on 3 either!
They currently don't offer over 500gb but that takes the p if the do on Iphoney

Its 500 meg Fair use policy. This is not the same as a "capped allowance", in reality they do not hold you to this. I have many times gone over 500 (actually over 2 gig one month) and they are not bothered,

The worst case scenario is they send you a letter saying "please don't take the piss so much". Just for the record I have never had one of those letters!

The Iphone 1gig is actually worse because its a cap therefore as soon as you go over it you are paying more.

Vodafone said they slow down the connection over 500mb.

Vodafone online is faster than 3 too.

Think might go back to the V sim and try it on full pelt for a month and see what happens.
