Simple, red pill has been removed and so has "install from file" option.

Although I previously created a pointless thread, for whining about red pill, the only functionality I ever needed from it is the ability to install LOCAL .debs.
The ONLY purpose of this function is CONVENIENCE and not having to take the keyboard out!
Hunting packages in red pill mode is truly stupid especially if you're not a developer and don't know what they do... most of them don't do anything but bricking since they're probably parts of a bigger project, that you as a user know nothing about.

I repeat, this is not a red pill thread, it refers strictly to local .debs!

I think that gutting the n900 environment because some people might in theory hurt themselves with it is not the right way to go. Red Pill mode is dispensable, but the removal of simple courtesies to the power user like Install from file are sort of an insult, and paternalistic to boot. Put a big warning there if you must, but let people use the N900 as it was meant to be used without artificial roadblocks.

Exactly. Red pill mode is useless.

come back btching about missing red pill only after you have destroyed your os by installing wrong package when in red pill mode. I've done it once by mistake and it was as simple as 1-2-3 (e: as easy as installing Amazon widget). I don't miss it a bit and yes, I know how to avoid destroying your os when using red pill mode...

If someone can't install a .deb from command line, they shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

RPM is mischievous in that it doesn't give the impression you're doing something special and risky
Using the terminal and going root will make beginners feel more like it's risky business

I _NEVER_ had a problem with RPMs in SuSE KDE YaST. Because I can look into full environment and it never try to hide something from me.

Redpill was more convenient, that should be enough to keep it in my opinion.
