I'm starting this thread in the hopes of getting feedback from users who fit the following criteria:

-able to successfully establish and maintain a VNC connection over the internet. This means not locally on a LAN, but outside of your LAN and over the internet via your specific ip.

If You fit this, could you please let me know what server software you're using, your vnc viewer settings, os, and any other nuances you think might be relevant.

Also if anyone knows how to get a hold of the VNC Viewer developers for the N900 it would be much appreciated.

I think a lot of the issues I'm having are from the viewer using older protocols, and not resolving correctly with the server. Within a the same LAN as the server I have no problems.

Thanks!

If you're wanting to use VNC over the internet, you should really use an encryption protocol of some sort (VPN, ssh, etc) as the VNC protocol itself is not secure.

yeah I have this established, but the connection is not the issue right now. The issue is maintaining a connection, and I think the problem is the n900 viewer is not current enough with my vnc server software. So I'm just trying to see if anyone has actually gotten a connection to work over the internet?

I can connect fine over the internet (3G), using an ssh tunnel, with TigerVNC on Linux at the server end.
