Hey Guys

I made the mistake of owning a N97 anyway I could bore you for ages with ranting but I'll be nice and get to the point. My N97 died and nokia refuse to repair it. I have ordered a N900 as my new phone. I want to know I made a backup of text messages, calendar events and contacts using OVI. Does anyone know if this backup made from my N97 could be restored onto my n900. I figured perhaps OVI encodes this data the same and dispatches it to the phone according to the model. I called nokia but they were useless.

Thanks for your time guys, Look forward to joining you in future when I receive my phone

this may not be totally helpful, but I have transferred contacts, notes, calendar over from N97 to N900 multiple times over Bluetooth without a hiccup...Not sure about the PCSuite alternativbe though o_O

Yeah this N97 wont boot so its not really going to be much use sadly. Mind you if the mobiles can simply exchange information like that makes it sound more likely I can. Thanks for the reply anyway

I would gladly try it out for you, but my N97 is not mine anymore . I think that they have preserved the compatibility at this level. Good Luck!

Luckily, I found old backup file from my N97 for I haven`t reinstalled my PC Suite yet. It found it to be a suitable file for my N900 restoration. I didn`t go all the way (not in need to time travel right now ) but it seems to be working fine all the way to the point before actual restoration. Hope it`ll work out for you so you can enjoy the glorious N900 not missing a thang .

K thanks mate Worst case I just have to enter numbers again I synced the contacts to OVI so it will be effort but it won't be the end of the world. Contacts are the most important. Haha yeah can't wait I never even seen one in Australia let alone met anyone who knows what it is. Can't wait to try it out

Does anyone know why the Backup facility doesnt provide the option to back up "contacts"?

I have backed up my N900 and restored it and noticed the contacts were missing. I thought maybe I didnt tick a box when carrying out the back up but i went back to the application and there is no mention of "contacts".
Am I missing something?

It should back up contacts (as part of Communications & Calendar), but a few people have reported it failing to restore them.

Thanks. Rob.

I can understand how contacts fall under "communications and calendar" but I was looking for a clear "contacts" tick box when backing up. I have just exported all my contacts to my memory card manually in case I do a complete flash.

has anyone else experienced this problem?

You can export (backup) your contacts by following these steps:

click on contacts
at the top of the screen click on All Contacts
click export
follow the Export wizard

You can choose either vCard 2.1 or vCard 3.0 format
