I think I did something really silly!

A few months ago I downloaded the examples of QT to my N900, I was playing with them a few days ago and now it appears that no one can hear me when I make a call.

I was playing with:
audiodevices
audioinput
audiooutput

Can anyone point me in the right direction to correct this problem ?

Is it ONLY when you are making a call, does it affect all audio input?

Does it make any difference using the headset or bluetooth mic?

What program were you using to "play around" with those files? Some editors automatically leave a backup file whenever you edit anything

I didn't edit the examples, I only ran them and pressed a couple of buttons.

I don't use any other accessory.

I know this sounds stupid and a classic "windows" answer, but have you tried a cold boot? Turn it off, remove the battery, turn it on.

I assume you've already rebooted but this will just tick more possibilities off the list

Well, I haven't used windows in about 5 years, I use Linux Ubuntu on all my computers.

Well I hadn't actually done that, I have now and it appears that the problem has been resolved.

Thanks for reminding me about that one.

I will now remove the apps that might have caused it, so I cant do it again by accident!

Thanks again

A curious one!

Try running alsamixer (if it is not installed, install alsautils) and ensure your capture volume setting is not muted.

Use tab to move between Playback | Capture | ALL setting and use arrow up and down to adjust volume.

Where can I get "alsautils" ?

I cant see it on maemo.org
or in my apps manager on my n900 ?

I'm always interested in neat apps.

Good to hear that this sorted out your problem. I haven't used windows in years either. I started on Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) about 6 years ago and have never looked back. Now on Ubuntu 10.04 and very happy. I've even got my girlfriend on a linux only system now

The one lesson you learn with windows is this:
No matter how many times you reboot, it's still windows

My mistake - it's probably part of the base maemo distribution therefore it will be on your N900 already.

FYI - alsamixer is a terminal-based configuration tool to control the volume of the sound card. You can run it from the X-Terminal ; so run X-Terminal (CTRL-X from your home screen) and then type in

Code:
alsamixer
to launch.

Hope that helps!

I've been programming php for about 15 years, I was doing it with dreamweaver on windows until I saw Linux and wow I don't think you saw anybody change as quickly as I did, but, I never and still haven't sussed out the command line thing (terminal) .

Today I program with netbeans and sometimes bluefish. A few months ago some one pushed me to learn python and qt, so now I'm trying to learn terminal etc... but its still rather scary, for me, until someone points me to a good place to learn that.

I have a couple of apps that I'd like to try and make.
