Hi all I want to install MAG-hildon desktop but to do that I need to remove modified-hildon-desktop.

Now firstly my usb port is broken so if I brick my phone there is no fixing it so that is why I am asking here just to be sure (I charge with an external battery charger).

Is it ok for me to remove modified-hildon-desktop using application manager? Will the old hildon manager just work afterwards? Is there anything else I need to remove or a preferred removal order?

Cheers for any help.

Just a guess, but you might want to try
Code:
sudo gainroot
apt-get install --reinstall hildon-desktop

btw, in your precarious situation, i strongly recommend you check out backupmenu. it may get you out of a serious bind at some point.

Amen. Backup menu has saved me from inconvenient situations several times.

This will install hildon-desktop again. You might additionally have to purge the modified-hildon-desktop package and reboot
Code:
apt-get purge modified-hildon-dektop
reboot
