btw, in your precarious situation, i strongly recommend you check out backupmenu. it may get you out of a serious bind at some point.

apt-get purge modified-hildon-dektop reboot
Now firstly my usb port is broken so if I brick my phone there is no fixing it so that is why I am asking here just to be sure (I charge with an external battery charger).
Is it ok for me to remove modified-hildon-desktop using application manager? Will the old hildon manager just work afterwards? Is there anything else I need to remove or a preferred removal order?
