This topic was discussed previously but now when PR 1.2 is out and N900's fate is pretty much known is it safe to remove them using this method?

If I remove them only this that wont work is OTA updates or it will also affect python based apps and other package updates?

Thanks

Check the "Uninstall" option in the app manager. I read somewhere that preinstalled programs can be uninstalled with pr 1.2

That was indeed planned but was cancelled. The most annoying problems were
solved by separating content from apps. But then separating apps from platform
was still complicated for many apps in Fremantle, there was some extra work in
packaging and localizations and it was considered not so relevant.

fwiw Harmattan/MeeGo brings a well layered architecture and a process to handle
system updates autonomous of applications...

Ok looks like MeeGo will have that feature
