Read on here without the back on the N900 you wont see the memory card.. sorted that!

My old phone i created a back up of everything on my memory card to thenrestore onto my new one in the N900..

When i try to restore a backup.. it says theres no memery card???

if i check in " memory " on the phone its there..??

BUT if i then have a look on my main PC it shows the N900 etc but i cant see/find my memory card??

Any ideas folks?

Cheers

If you talk about the 'backup' application, it wont restore stuff from other phones. It's for backuping some parts of the N900.

What was your old phone? If it was not another N900, then what kind of backup you did with your old phone?

How do you try to restore your backup? The built-in 'Backup' shows on the main screen your backups stored on your N900's internal memory and memory card backups. Only backups created with the device are supported in this application.

What do you mean by "if i check in " memory " on the phone its there..??" ?

How did you checked your N900 in your PC exactly?

Nothing what you says has any sense

Simply launch the "File manager" application. If the phone recognized your memory card, it will be shown there.

Example from my phone:

The phone's contacts can import vcards from single file or mass import by a folder. Also the phone supports "Transfer & sync" (can be found in the settings) witch works with previous symbian phones.
There're a lot of other way to restore backups to your phone, not just the built in Backup app.

Thanks for the replies..

Sorry i shoul dhave made myself more clear..

I used Nokia Data Suite to do a backup of my old Nokia 6233

With it being an older phone there may well be some bits that wouldnt move on to the N900..

With Data suite i did a " Phone " backup and then a "memory card" backup.

So basically i could just connect my new N900 to Nokia Data Suite and restore my backups...

The first restore i did worked fine.. this sorted all my contacts out and calender dates etc..

They second restore i wanted to do was for the memory card.. this wont work.. data suite says theres no card?

Ive checked on the N900 by going - file manager - memory card and its there!!

i tried again... data suite says its not there?

So i now think i'll use the pc i have connected the phone too, I go into windows explorer.. find the memory card in the phone this way (i managed this perfectly ok with my old 6233) and just drag and drop all my info (i have already saved onto my pc) onto the N900. The problem is i cant find the card!! ( i had previously put some photos onto this card using a microsd reader so i would know ive found the write folder..)

Hope this makes sense now.. )

Any ideas?

The only way i think i may be able to do it is by removeing the new microSD from the N900 and doing it through the card reader and my home pc.. just drag and drop everything then put back in my N900?

Cheers again folks

Nick

So if i understand you correctly, you was already able to copy your contacts and claendar (perhaps messages?) to your N900.

About the memory card, i've no idea what you're trying to "backup".
Just simply unplug it from your old 6233 and plug in to your N900.

All multimedia files (music, pictures, videos) what already stored on your memory card will be automatically available. About java games/java apps, they are not supported on the N900 yet, and also not planned.

If you're unable to find any of these on your memory card, then you can copy them manually to your N900. When you plug your USB cable to your N900 select "Mass storage mode" from the popup window. When it says "USB mode connected" you're ready to go.

In this case you can use your N900 like any regular pen-drive. Also you will see two additional drives. One is your 32GB built-in memory (only 27GB usable by end-users) and the other one is your memory card. Copy everyting what you need, then remove the USB cable (don't forget safety remove).

I attach an image below, where you see that (I:) drive is my built-in memory and also the (J:) drive is my memory card.

Many thanks again for your hep on this matter..

On the memory card - i wasnt trying to back up anything on the N900... i was trying to restore the "memory card" backup i created on my 6233 onto my N900... this is where Nokia Data Suite says there isnt one (memory card) in the phone to carry out the restore?

The simpleist way is as you suggested..

Or just remove the microSD from the phone and put into a usb card reader.. copy all waht i need this way, then place microsd back in the phone..

I'll try your way seems the most obvious!

Im just baffled though why data suite says there isnt a memory card in the phone to restore my backup to?

Cheers

Reason 1: Nokia 6233 and Nokia N900 uses totally different operating systems, therefore backups will not works to any direction.

Reason 2: any backups are made, is locked to the phone's own IMEI number. Therefore you're not able to make a backup and restore it even on the same phone modell.
