on my N900, I downloaded a few apps from Extra-Devel, one being fat-label. Once installed I could not send SMS messages, therefore I went to uninstall the defective apps, but all apps disappeared in the app manager!!! There are no apps under update, download or uninstall. WHAT SHOULD I DO????

restart phone and when you go to the uninstall-section of the app-manager, give it some time to load. it doesnt show everything instantly.

if that doesnt help.... well, i guess you knew the risks of downloading stuff from devel

That's not true. Fat-Label is not even listed in Extras-Devel, see http://maemo.org/packages/repository...el_free_armel/ .
So you downloaded something from some 3rd party website.

No idea how broken that app is (that's why you maybe should not use Extras-Devel if you have no idea how to get out of such situations?), but you should be able to become root (again big warning: http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access ) and run "apt-get remove fat-label".
