It would be more helpful if you gave a few examples with links to the posts regarding the moderators you are accusing. It would also be in your interest to have this thread moved to Community instead of Off Topic.

Actually, thanks for the ideas, but at this time I'd rather not single anyone out, and would rather ask the question in the beginning of the first message: who moderates the moderators? This is a perfectly fair question, I think. Does anyone have an answer?

Probably Reggie and other moderators. Though they don't do much besides merging threads and banning extremely obvious troll accounts.

Who moderates the moderators? The admins.
I've had only one complaint with one ex-mod and it went to the admin and he addressed it. As it stands, some people - moderator and average member - are the reason my participation has dropped around here.
Hit the admin with your grievance.

There used to be a moderator in a forum I was in 4 years ago, he was
the only poster that probably broke every rule out there, calling people dumbf***s and other variations.

I have noticed posts from moderators that were outrageously impolite and in some cases, implied obscenities.
It appears that they are given free reign. I have specifically requested (by posting a message to that effect) that they be controlled, and have seen no sign that anything has been done to control them.
Moderators are human too, and just like the rest of us, sometimes they need to be cooled out.
