The February 2007 issue of Linux Journal Magazine reports the March 2007 issue will have an article on how to build a multiroom digital music system controlled by a Nokia 770. No details were given.

Step 1: Buy a load of Squeezeboxen, one for each room
Step 2: Install Slimserver on a PC (Windows, Linux, Mac)
Step 3: Connect your 770 to your Slimserver and with the 770-specific theme you can control all your Squeezebox as if by magic

Could it, maybe, be related to Pinnacle Audio's Athenaeum music server, described at linuxdevices?

You got it.

Ever since getting the 770, I've been using it to access my slimserver's web interface via nokia theme. Slimserver can stream net radio or audio files to most networked media players. My primary media player is the Roku Sounbridge connected to a stereo. The 770 also does a decent job as a player for slimserver streams.

The web interface is quite usable but could use some refinement - it has almost too many features. The artwork display is pretty basic. Am looking at adding extensions to allow viewing "all" artworks for a specific CD.

Slimserver itself is extensible via Perl modules with many contributions coming from the user community.

Can't wait to get my March issue of LJ to see what else is possible.

If you haven't seen the article yet, it's MPD, lightTPD and phpMp on a fanless mini-itx.

I use a Roku M500 soundbridge and just attached to the built in web server to provide some basic control. But I also use Mediastreamer which gives me quite a bit more flexibility in controlling music on the Roku soundbridge. I also have a Linux based HTPC that I use VNC on the 770 to control it.
