In that way, I cannot open the slider at all, and the phone sits firmly without the danger of falling off + thats the logical way for a gps to be.

What if you mount the N900 with an open slider?
That would help until someone comes up with something better.

I can't, it will block the headphones + charge jack and won't suport the phone from below.
I am looking for a software solution not a hardware solution.
I don't see a reason making this impossible.
When I drive, I got my N900 mounted using a vacuum mount in landscape mode, held from bottom and top by the mount arm.
In that way, I cannot open the slider at all, and the phone sits firmly without the danger of falling off + thats the logical way for a gps to be.
Now when I want to call someone, I press my calender widget, but I can't search it! and I cannot even scroll to a specific area at once, i'll have to keep scrolling till I find what I want, not very safe when driving if you ask me...
If there was a way to type in 2 letters with the virtual keyboard to minimize my search time, that would have been awesome.
So anyone knows how to do it? If I conclude this is not possible,
It's going to brainstorm.
Thx guys,
Eitam.
