N800/Diablo/SD boot
Settings: MM>menu>Managing Repositories>Cache DB>/media/mmc1/Maps
Menu>Maps>Manage Maps...>Setup>check dl Maps and By Area
and then set Zoom
I planned to dl East USA zoom adjust to 300 MB, GA zoom adjusted to 100 MB, and NY city zoom adjusted to 50 MB. These steps were done sequentially, one at a time, East USA took me 10 hr (maybe less, i forgot to check), GA took me 1 hr and NY city took me 20 min.

And then I check the folder /media/mmc1/Maps. To my surprice, after the East USA, I got 310 MB maps on the folder, after GA, it shrinked to 250 MB, and after NY city, it is now 175 MB. I thought the folder Maps should be getting bigger like 300 + 100 + 50 for a total of at least 450 MB. Apparantly, the next download map 'delete' the previous dl maps
Any thought about this?

Yes, I already read the Fragos Bible. Although I did not find my answer, I still amazed by the work he puts in. Its awful lots of work, Fragos, good job! Thumbs up!

On top of this, I also noticed the files are named differently, not by intention,
They are, google.gdbm, OpenStreet.db, Traffic, and YStreet

What is the question?
1) Is my previous dl maps still there or are they gone?
2) And how do I 'see' what maps I have in my tablet?
3) How do you keep your download maps for next use? Please put down exactly how you do it. Monday 10 pm NOT a good time to think, "my brain is FULL and dont have a cow" (Bart Simpson)

Space is NOT a problem, the SD card is a 8G empty card, and has lots of space.

TIA,

bun

I haven't screwed with any settings other than picking where to save the maps, and I'll look at my file size. But I've been able to use all my previously downloaded maps offline.

Thanks for the post. I think I am also using my previous dl maps, but it is a little unnerving to see the folder gets smaller.

Oh, BTW, I am sweating to get maps onto my tablet, I am also please to bring to the community attention, that the FREE OVI maps 3.0 has been out since 6/2009. You bet, it is FREE and it is by a company called Nokia. Wish our N8x0 runs Symbian S60, like the new Nokia Surge 6790, then we dont have to work for maps,... so hard

Still there, but it sounds like you're flipping between repositories. If you're using google street view, use this script to download them onto your PC in sqlite format. Usage is as follows:

getmaps GStreet.sqlite -t 44.86000 -l -88.43000 -b 39.83000 -r -81.62000 -z 16 -z 14 -z 12 -z 10 -z 8 -z 6 -z 4

"getmaps" is the script. GStreet.sqlite is the database it will build for copying onto your tablet. the -t, -l, -b and -r are the four GPS coordinates you will find via your tablet. IE, zoom in on a particular area, then go to "menu -> maps -> manage maps" then click on the "area" tab. The third and fourth lines will have the four coords you need. Just plug those into the script.

Lastly, all the -z's are the zoom levels. In most cases zoom level 16 is the highest you'll need, and you should only need the even numbered zoom levels. So like what I did, 16 down to 4 should be plenty. Of course, the bigger the area you do, the longer it's going to take. So typically I only recommend going no lower than zoom level 8 for areas as large as states or small countries, but 6 and 4 are fine for specific cities.

2) And how do I 'see' what maps I have in my tablet?
You don't, short of actually loading them up in MM and seeing what it loads and what it tries to auto download.
3) How do you keep your download maps for next use? Please put down exactly how you do it. Monday 10 pm NOT a good time to think, "my brain is FULL and dont have a cow" (Bart Simpson)
MM caches maps in its database. Just doing that leaves them available for next use. Unless you somehow either delete the database or tell it to purge all maps, it'll just download everything and keep it indefinitely.

Thank you Lord Raiden, getmaps is exactly what I am looking for and dont know how to search for it. Looks like you have been using it, any pearls in its use other than what you just posted?

TIA,

Not really, other than to watch it for times when it'll crash because of a hickup in your internet connection. My solution for that was to write a simple perl script with a loop that automatically restarted it repeatedly each time it crashed. (The crashes are due to Python's flaky dns request function in the http module. So it has nothing to do with the script.) I usually had to restart it every 250,000 to 350,000 tiles. So if you're doing 2 million tiles, you might have to restart it 6-8 times to finish everything.

Also, the total build time is several days, so be patient while it finishes. I wish someone would invent threading to allow it to do more, faster, but alas, it's parallel only, so it's somewhat slow.
