Dear Community,

I use my device to setup for example WLAN networks and make router modifications while I have no PC in range.

The problem is that some routers want "800x600" as minimum resolution, its impossible then to access the router / repeater... else. Is it possible to bypass that and send the "webserver" that the Maemo browser is using "800x600" and not "800x480"?

I think that it is quite important for some people here so they can access such websites / devices.

Try portrait mode? That should make the screen 800 tall. Or am I misunderstanding?

You can do this probably by using a browser inside of easy-debian. I use this method to get larger virtual resolution for desktop apps. I do the following. 1. Install easy-debian. 2. inside easy-debian you can apt-get tightvncserver (something like that). then you can launch a vnc server at larger resolution. you do not need to be in LXDE. Opening an easy-debian shell is enough. 3. launch a vnc server like "vncserver :1". give it a password on first launch. 4. install vnc-viewer. 4. connect vnc to localhost:1.

You should now be able to launch iceweasel with a larger resolution.

if you have problems with CAPS then disable auto caps in text input settings. This seems to be an issue with vnc viewer.

You can try to disable javascript, but it will probably break some things on the webpage.

There is not a single website in the world that will fail to work on a browser running sized smaller then its minimum width. You will simply get both horizontal and vertical scrolling.

There is no need to "fake" screen resolution.

It's possible to write a php or perl script to block ppl with small resolutions.

Sure, and you can block based on any other info provided by the browser. So? Why do that? That would be silly. Please provide a reference to *any* website or shipping web-enabled device that does this.

Any will do. Just one.

Some website owners don't want to make their website look ugly/unusable I guess. I never seen websites that block browsers with low resolutions. But I've seen website that change css when they detect lower resolution, to make it look nicer.

So, those sites would work fine on the n900.

I'm trying to understand if the OP has an actual problem, or a theoretical problem. Because before I used the n900, I was doing the same kind of things with 320x240 screens and winmo with its opera browser and I never had a problem other then needing to scroll like mad to interact with the appliance.

Looks like the OP's router/extender/whatever doesn't even load the page if the minimum resolution condition is not met.
