Hi all. When I'm @ home I've got two networks available, a N-class with an SSID that starts with 'G' & a G-class that starts with 'M'. Obviously I'd like my N900 to connect to & stay connected to the G class network so it doesn't slow down the N, but it will keep switching over to the N after the next time it rescans after Autodisconnect has done it's duty.

I'd prefer to keep both in my known network list because there are sometimes that I need to use the N, as it is my internal network that my fileserver is on. But there doesn't seem to be any option to set a network priority. I've found bug 8444 which covers the same issue from the opposite angle, so I'm guessing this isn't currently possible.

I can of course change one of the SSID's, which might work because I'm guessing the network is selected based on the alpha-numeric order of the SSID. I tried changing the stored network name, but that didn't work, which is why I think it's the SSID, but before going through the hassle of doing that, can anyone confirm this hypothesis?

TX

N900 can't connect to 802.11n - well mine certainly can't!

Mine connects fine to N-routers - of course not in N-mode though.

Which is the point. A G device connected to an N AP will drag the speed down to G for ALL connected devices.

There is certainly a way for you to unify your network and access the whole network with G devices through G AP and N through N AP. Wouldn't that be a more bulletproof solution?

I knew there was, I guess I haven't had the time and/or been adventurous enough to figure that out yet .

That being said, I still think that being able to set a network priority would be a good thing .

Standardizing and simplifying your network will work on all devices. I suggest you to invest the time you are using to force N900 into sth it can't do to configuring your network and rather post some questions about that, they're answerable

About the Maemo's networks handling. Yes, its poor. But try to take a look at the output of:

gconftool -R /system/osso/connectivity/IAP

ICD on Maemo uses IAP IDs to identify certain connections, maybe if you re-add your networks so that the one with a higher priority gets lower id (id is random), it will work. Or maybe higher id. Or there is another parameter...

You can get a little bit more detailed info at: http://wiki.maemo.org/Phone_control#...ved_connection
