my nokia n900 randomly switches off sometimes when i slide the qwerty or otherwise also. is this a problem with the hardware of software? i gotta manually turn it on after that and sometimes i wont even know when it gets switched off. earlier my phones display was kinda dead and they fixed it for me.

You seem to have gotten pretty shoddy hardware. Provided that you've done nothing wrong with your N900 (like installing n900fly and actively playing it daily), I'd recommend you have it replaced, not repair, asap.

cable that connects display and mainboard may be damaged ..are you sure it switches off? maybe only backlight?
