So, I have seen a few videos of WINE running on the N900 applications such as Notepad and such. I haven't been able to find much info on it - but is this in development? Will the N900 ever be able to run fully functional Win32 applications/games? Thoughts, experience, ideas, comments?

I'd say that it is impossible to use WINE to run any windows apps on the n900. One of the pre-requisites to using wine is that the underlying processor is x86 compatible. The n900 has an ARM Cortex A8 processor which is not x86 compatible. So: No wine for the n900.

Technically it would be possible using qemu to virtualize an x86, then run windows or linux + wine, but it would be extremely slow.

An x86 application such as Wine could be launched with qemu without a full Linux VM installation. This way you could use Wine to run Windows binaries on the N900 (that is what you saw on those screenshots).

But don't expect too much as the required CPU power to run even a Win9X application would be probably too much for our beloved phone.

It is possible... There is even a guide somewhere here.

It's wine on top of qemu.

That might have been a DOS game, which is playable via DOSBox IIRC.
