If you plot a course while connected to WiFi or 3G, Mapper will automatically download maps along your path. If you want to ensure that you will have all areas clearly, go to Application Menu, Maps, Manage Maps, Select "Along Route, and Radius 8, then choose whatever zoom level you desire. (Higher Zoom levels mean it is zoomed out more, and have less files. Lower levels mean it is zoomed in more, and take much longer to download.)

These maps will be used offline.

I'm not quite sure how to download them from the computer then putting them in the device.

Do you have this selected?
menu / View / Auto-Center / Lat-Lon

Here's my favorite method of downloading map data by area:
1. Get an area onscreen for which you want to download data. This might be a country, a state/province, a metropolitan area, a town, or whatever.
2. Go to menu / Maps / Manage Maps.
3. On the Setup tab, click "By Area".
4. On the Zoom tab, note which level is automatically selected. Select the three next lower EVEN numbers. For example, if 11 is automatically selected, then select also 10, 8, and 6. If 14 is automatically selected, then select also 12, 10, and 8.
5. Hit OK. It will give you an estimate of how much data it may download. If that's too big, then go back and deselect the lowest level.

You might consider doing this twice for an area to make sure everything downloaded properly.

For me, this method is the sweet spot of enough data to be really useful, but not so much as to flood my memory card.

Also, you may know this, but MaemoMapper has a large Help system. Also, search this forum for posts by fragos that reference MaemoMapper for a link to a long article on his website.
