I was stupid enough to "touch a working system". I wanted to test ermnig for syncing to google.
What a mistake.
I made a backup first, to make sure.
Then I tried ermnig. It of course screwed up, destroyed my calender and deleted all my contacts. As I almost suspected.
With a mild sigh I thought "okay, lesson learned" and just did a "restore" from the backup I had done only minutes earlier.
IT BLOODY DOESN'T WORK!!
Some form of contracts came in, but
- not any contacts I had merged into one
- some were missing
- all contacts on the desktops were gone
- as were a bunch of other widgets, randomly
In short - a complete disaster, and the contacts I had so preciously backed up - GONE.
I have looked into the contacts db files in the Backup directories. They *appear* fine. The data *appears* to be there, but loading it back in - nope. Just crap.
Bah. I recreated the lost contacts manually. So just let this be a warning.
Amusingly, the contacts that were *lost* were the main contacts for my family - the one I also used on the homescreen... which were merged contacts from various subsystems (skype, email, synced, whatnot).
Seems that contacts can't handle that combination for some reason... don't ask which broke it, I don't plan to recreate the breakage
