That's a good question! I've wondered the same thing.
With a traditional spirit level you take a reading in one spot on a counter or work bench, then rotate and place on the exact same spot. The bubble should be in the same place in each direction.
I would think doing the same thing with the phone, equipped with a calibrate button that averages the results and calls it zero, would get the job done.
Sorry I'm not a programmer.
Is there any way to calibrate 0 degrees on the various spirit levels as horizontal on my unit which is 4 degrees off true physically from the casing.
